Many of my favorite subjects are things I pass every day in the summer on my way to the grocery store in Blue Hill, Maine. This oak tree stands watch over a very rocky blueberry barren, just beginning to "pink up" the day I hauled my easel up the hill to paint it. I enjoy working on slick surfaces like this gessoed birch for plein air painting; I can build up a surface quickly and not get hung up on too much detail.
