The blueberry barrens (fields) in Downeast Maine turn so red it almost hurts to look at them. This one, just a few miles from downtown Blue Hill, is punctuated by granite outcroppings that make harvesting difficult but create patterns pleasing to my eye. As I was packing up from my plein air session, a Maine black bear came ambling down the road to take a peek (I hid in the car!).
