The geology of the Schoodic Peninsula is distinctive, with its piled-up flat layers of tilted rock. For this painting, I tried breaking a cardinal watercolor rule and painted dark-to-light to establish the strong shadow pattern in the rocks before adding the vibrant color. As I was finishing up, I leaned over and my phone fell out of my shirt pocket into a crevice about 18" deep. With the help of a tire iron and a friendly tourist, I got it out!
