Fishing villages often have a penned-up area that was used as a holding tank for lobsters, or a way to trap bait fish that had been driven inshore by predators. I'm not sure how this one in Stonington, Maine was (or is?) used, as it looks as it has been repaired. What spoke to me was the interplay between the vertical posts and the strong horizontals in the water.
