I have always loved this old cape at the top of a long drive on Carter Point in Sedgwick, Maine, but it never spoke to me as a painting subject until I walked by late one winter afternoon as the setting sun was creating a glow on the partially snow-covered field. The struggle was in the shadow patterns in the furrows.
